Tradie chases after stolen Jeep on Queensland highway
EXCLUSIVE: A professional on his way to work chased a Jeep SUV that was stolen just 30 minutes earlier from the Caboolture family while they slept.
Security footage shows the suspected teenage thief push other family vehicles off the road before fleeing, taking out a parked car in the road.
The owners of the car, who spoke exclusively to 9News, said they have no idea how the thief got into the car.
“I got out, I saw ‘how the hell did that happen,’ then I told the cops,” Gary Clothier said.
“It’s a bit worrying because there could be house keys in there if it’s a kit we normally carry. Now I’m going to have to change all the locks.”
Tradie Damien Harrison saw the stolen car on the Bruce Highway near Caboolture and followed it.
“We stopped, I ran to his car, opened the door and went to get his keys. It’s just a spur of the moment thought,” Harrison said.
“I thought someone was going to get killed here, I should try to do what I can to prevent that.
“He was struggling to see over the scoreboard – that’s not something you usually experience on a Friday morning.”
The thief was frightened, exited the motorway and turned onto Gympie Road in Lawnton, where he abandoned the car.
Queensland Police asked anyone with relevant sightings or information to come forward.
