Faced with overwhelming fear, she gathered her composure and moved into the left lane before pulling into the emergency lane.
Incredibly, the terrified driver managed to get out of her vehicle without being bitten by the large snake, which is among the five most venomous species in the world. However, she was taken to hospital for observation.
Police called Tim Naninga from Melbourne to get the reptile out of the Toyota Kluger.
“If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times … no two days at Victoria Police are the same,” a Victoria Police spokesman said.
Mr Naninga pulled the snake out from under the back seats before packing it in a sack and moving it away from the public.
Tiger snakes can be found right across the southern regions of Australia, including densely populated areas such as inner Melbourne.
It was a lucky escape for the unsuspecting driver as the tiger snake is considered extremely dangerous to humans due to its large size, aggressive defensive behavior and toxic venom.
