Terrifying moment family allegedly threatened by gun-wielding teenager in park

Parents have described the terrifying moment they were allegedly threatened by a teenager with a gun in front of their children in a Melbourne park.

At least one of the boys accused of carrying out the brutal crime has been released on bail.

Police say the teenagers crashed at a Christmas party yesterday afternoon, driving dangerously close to families in Frankston North.

Father David Namias, mother Mercy Igott and a group of their friends and children saw it all.

“It was so traumatic,” Igott said.

She said the children started crying.

“We saw him with the black ski mask, we said he wanted to kill our group,” Nahmias said.

“It was like a movie, everything slowed down and I just saw danger.”

Hours later, boys aged 15 and 16 were handcuffed and thrown into the back of a police van.

They are accused of targeting their first victim at around 2pm yesterday.

They allegedly stopped at a Skye bus stop and demanded a 16-year-old boy hand over his shoes and phone while threatening him with a machete.

Then, 15 minutes later, a woman was allegedly threatened with a gun in Frankston North Park.

Police tracked the Toyota Kluger to the Frankston-Dandenong Road where it crashed.

The teenagers are said to have ditched the car and fled on foot before being arrested in a paddock at Carrum Downs.

After being interviewed by detectives, they were charged with a series of charges including driving and weapons offenses and armed robbery.

They appeared in children’s court late this afternoon.

The court heard that one of the teenagers has already been bailed on two charges.

He again applied for bail but the magistrate refused, declaring the charges “shocking, serious and incredibly dangerous”.
