Izaak Rankin’s dazzling cameo fired Adelaide to an upset 16-point win against Greater Western Sydney.
Rankine’s sensational opening half gave the Crows the edge in their 13.16 (94) to 12.6 (78) triumph at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
Rankin had the most pleasing half-time stats of a full game: 21 disposals, seven inside 50s, five clearances, seven tackles and 2.2 kicking.

His exploits sparked a seven-goal second-term surge from the Crows in a 20-minute spell that turned a 12-point deficit into a 33-point lead.
“Isaac was great especially in the first half,” Adelaide coach Matthew Nix said.
“We knew they were going to attack us in the second (half), but I thought his individual performance in the first half, on top of what his teammates did, was just great.”
Rankin finished with 27 touches, Darcy Fogerty kicked three goals and Taylor Walker, Bean Keys and Josh Rachel kicked two each.
Captain Jordan Dawson (24 disposals, 10 marks) and defenders Mitch Hinge (31 disposals) and Mark Keane also featured prominently as the Crows snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Giants (eight wins, seven losses) missed the chance to move up to fifth on the ladder – instead they fall to ninth.
“We’re nowhere near as consistent as we need to be to be a good team, that’s for sure,” GWS coach Adam Kingsley said.
“The breakdown was again around the contest, we were badly beaten around the ball. They outplayed us, especially in the second quarter.”
Midfielder Tom Green (38 possessions) and Lachie Whitfield (41) were prolific ball carriers, Toby Green kicked three goals and Josh Kelly (24, two goals) and Callan Ward (24, two goals) were standouts.
Adelaide’s Keys kicked the first two goals of the game as the home team raced to an early 15-0 lead.
The Giants then went on a four-goal run – when Jesse Hogan slotted in an open goal seconds before halftime, he put the visitors up 24-18.
Skipper Green soon extended the scoring streak and GWS had a 5.0 to 2.6 lead before Adelaide suddenly clicked.
The Crows, with Rankin and former captain Walker taking control, recorded seven consecutive goals in their 20-minute match.
Rankin, Walker and Fogerty each kicked two goals as the hosts went from two goals down to 33 points at half-time, 9.9 to 5.0.
The Crows built a game-high 37-point break midway through the third round before the visitors pulled within 23 points at three-quarter time.
GWS captain Green and Hogan kicked goals to reduce Adelaide’s lead to 14 points with 13 minutes remaining.
But the Crows, with Fogerty converting his third and three-man Billy Dowling adding another, held on for a fifth win of the season.
