Preamble

Welcome! The weekend’s Premier League action got underway last night with Southampton got a good point at Brighton and actually felt aggrieved that it wasn’t all three after more VAR controversy. This means there is no 12:30 game today, but a 3:00 p.m. there’s a lot to play for with four top-flight matches kicking off. OK, none of the top six are in action, but there’s plenty of intrigue in this quartet of encounters:

Brentford v Leicester
Crystal Palace v Newcastle
Nottingham Forest v Ipswich
Wolves v Bournemouth

Can you look at any of these four and be confident of a winner? OK, Brentford have been great at home (five wins and a draw in six games). But what about Ruud van Nistelrooy? Leicester boom effect? There is a sentence.

So there are all these pluses EFL and Europe news. Leeds can return to the top of the Championship with a win against Blackburn (1.30pm), while we check out the trio of Championship games live and bring you hot news from FA Cup second round. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it, and for those looking for an extra fix when that watch goes off, there it is West Ham vs Arsenal in a separate MBM at 5:30 p.m. join me!
