Champion jockey Luke Nolen taken to hospital after nasty fall in Geelong

Star jockey Luke Nolen was taken to hospital after a nasty fall at Geelong on Thursday.

Nolen, best known for his association with champion mare Black Caviar, crashed to the turf at the top of the straight when he fell from his horse, Draw Attention, during the second race.

Draw Attention was at the back of the field when the incident occurred, which may have saved Nolen from further damage.

The 44-year-old man was conscious until paramedics arrived on the scene to help.

The Geelong race was stopped briefly as a second ambulance was called.

Nolen was eventually taken to hospital with the Victorian Jockey Association (VJA) saying he suffered injuries to his nose and teeth.

He also had a “presumed concussion and lower back pain,” according to the VJA.

Please note, no one was injured in the incident.

If scans confirm concussion for Nolen, then he will automatically be ruled out for two weeks, which includes Saturday’s Ballarat Cup, where he was booked to ride at the posh Berkeley Square.

Nolen, a 40-time Group 1 winner, suffered a serious injury in February this year after falling on track.

He suffered fractured ribs and underwent surgery to stop internal bleeding after the accident.
