AFL superstar Bailey Smith spends up big on new home near Torquay

Geelong boom recruit Bailey Smith has spent a whopping $4 million on a hidden home just off the Great Ocean Road near Torquay.

The stunning four-bedroom mansion is said to be an ‘entertainer’s dream’, sits on approximately 14.34 acres and offers plenty of privacy for the AFL superstar.

The home also features two living areas, a study, hydraulic flooring, outdoor living and entertaining areas, a built-in mineral pool and an in-ground trampoline.

The master bedroom was described as “the epitome of decadence”.

According to property records, Smith, 23, bought the property long before it was sold to Geelong.

Part of the selling proposition for the “exclusive and unique property” was the fact that it combines a country and coastal lifestyle, yet is only 10 minutes to Torquay and just over an hour to Melbourne.

Smith, who is sponsored by Cotton On, moved to Geelong in a high-profile trade deal on the final night of the AFL’s October trade period.

He is coming off an ACL injury, but his move to the Cats was partly due to his frustration with the lack of options in the Western Bulldogs’ powerful midfield.

Smith is somewhat of an AFL lover and has over 350,000 followers on Instagram.

Despite his high profile, he has previously admitted that he has struggled with mental health and likes his privacy.

Geelong surrendered their first-round pick (17) and their second-round pick (38) to acquire the running machine (who was selected No.7 in the 2018 draft).

The Cats are extremely excited to sign him and believe he can help them take a step forward next year after just missing out on a grand final spot in 2024.

“I think he’s that inside linebacker and he has the ability to break the lines,” captain Patrick Dangerfield told reporters on Monday.

“He averages a lot of inside 50 and I think that will really benefit the group we have in and around the ball, so that’s where I would see him playing.

“We just want him to be himself, to be honest.

“It’s not so much in terms of how we want to play – we want him to play to his strengths and that’s good for us as a team, so we’ll find out what that is in the next two months.”

“You get an idea because you see him and you play against him, but it’s not until you pull a guernsey together and you kind of understand the running patterns and where he likes to get the ball and all that stuff.”

Geelong will face reigning premiers Brisbane in the season opener on March 6.
