ACCC reveals the fastest NBN provider – and it’s not Telstra or Optus

The ACCC has just released its latest Measuring broadband access in Australia report. In its bid for a podium finish, telco Exetel has retained its place as the fastest NBN provider.

The report measures the performance of a dozen telcos four times a year, with data from this report collected in September. Exetel came out on top in three out of four reports this year, cementing its place as one of the most reliable internet providers when it comes to speed.

The latest report found Exetel customers hit 103% of their NBN plan’s maximum speeds during the busiest time of day, which is between 7pm and 11pm at night.

A result above 100% may be due to some of Exetel’s customers reaching more than their plan maximum.

Exetel does offer customers on some speed tiers five “speed boosts” per month. They allow you (where applicable) to increase your speeds to the next level for a period of 24 hours.

Then in second place were Dodo and iPrimus, which are considered one vendor in the report. Their customers hit 102.4% of their NBN plan’s maximum speeds during the busiest time of the day. They made a big jump from the fifth position in the previous report.

Telstra came just behind Dodo and iPrmus, its customers hitting 102.3% of their NBN plan’s maximum speeds during the busiest time of day.

Telstra may have some of the most expensive plans on the market, but obviously you get what you pay for. Took first place at the fastest internet provider in a report earlier this year.

Surprisingly there was a tie for fourth place. Both Optus and TPG customers hit 101.8% of their NBN plan’s maximum speeds during the busiest time of day.
