Actress Demi Moore says her ex-husband Bruce Willis is in a “very stable place right now” after that he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Die Hard star Willis, 69 was married to the Ghost actress for 13 years and the couple share three daughters – Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.

Despite splitting in 2000, the acting duo remained friends and Willis married actress Emma Heming Willis in 2009, with whom they have two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn.

In March 2022 it became clear that Willis had been diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder that affects communication abilities. Last year, his daughter Rumer confirmed that Willis had received a “more specific” diagnosis of FTD.

Giving an update on Willis’ condition during an interview with British journalist Christiane Amanpour on CNN, Moore said: “Given the circumstances, he’s in a very stable condition right now.

“I’ve shared this before, but I really mean it so sincerely. It’s so important for anyone involved to really meet them where they’re at, and there’s such love and joy from that place.

“I mean obviously it’s very difficult and it’s not what I would wish on anyone and there’s a great loss. But there is also great beauty and gifts that can come out of it.

FTD is an umbrella term for a group of dementias that mainly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, which are responsible for things like personality, behaviour, language and speech, according to Dementia UK.

Willis – best known for films such as Die Hard, The Sixth Sense and Criminal – retired from acting amid health problems.

On remaining a family unit despite her separation from Willis, Moore added, “That’s been very important to me, even since Bruce and I separated and divorced, is the recognition that we are a family and we will always be a family, just in different form.

“And that form can evolve and change, and there’s a way we can all be in that form.

“I’m thankful because it’s not just me. We need everyone to come together and it’s wonderful. I am truly so grateful.”
